Giant Trevally of Astove Atoll with Fulling Mill’s NYAP

Giant Trevally Nyap

Fly fishing for Giant Trevally should be on everyone’s bucket list, this bird-eating machine (we’ve all seen BBC’s Planet Earth II Footage) is a total powerhouse, and the Seychelles is certainly the place to do so…

Rasmus Oversen and Martin Olsen of Fin Chasers Magazine have recently returned from a trip to Madagascar chasing these magnificent fish, where the Fulling Mill NYAP (Designed by Fulling Mill Consultant James Christmas, a guide on Alponse Island in the Seychelles) was a definite MUST-HAVE pattern in the fly box.

The NYAP is not your average popper. This simple foam baitfish pattern has accounted for some whopping GT’s, the world over. Featuring a world-class-hook that’s recommended by almost every GT guide on the planet, the Gamakatsu SL12 can 100% be relied upon.

Even though we pride ourselves on producing some of the best flies on the market, there’s no denying that a power-house like the GT will destroy anything that gets in its way. The guys at Fin-Chasers reported back to us that despite the pattern was excellent in every way, they do get demolished after a fish or two. With the sheer power of this fish and a number of canine and conical teeth, no fly really stands a chance. We recommend taking a good number of NYAP’s if you’re lucky enough to go and target GT’s. Although we are looking to improve the NYAP’s where possible, they are foam based and so will never last that long – plus the hooks never give out.

Our flies are used all over the world and we love to hear feedback from anyone who’s willing to give it. Whether you’re fishing with size 18 dry flies for 6″ wild brown trout or 30kg GT’s in Seychelles, we take everything on board and improve where necessary.

COMING SOON – the Black NYAP (March 2018)

Martin and Rasums put together this short video whilst chasing Giant Trevally on the flats of Astove Atoll, featuring some epic NYAP surface action!
